When i pick up the parts i'll check with him what he thinks the issues are more specifically. You may be right, but i think the GPU was playing up long before most of this was an issue check my original post for an outline of the issues. I have no idea how to do these things can you recommend any good youtube tutorials on the matter? I can pretty much guarantied there is nothing wrong with the gpu aside from being crudded up. As for the tech, I don't doubt him but he would have loved to have sold you a new gpu and motherboard. Unless it has compromised some solder connections it is more than likely being caused by power bleed from running along the corrosion tracts as they can be conductive. The fact that it boots at all gives you a good chance of recovering the component. Then check the boards really well for signs of degradation around any solder joints. Inspect both the gpu and mb for corrosion and clean them really well with break cleaner and a soft toothbrush. I doubt all of them have such a good warranty. That's a 5 year warranty too.Īll depends on the cooler. Then that part of your warranty would be voided. I know my Fractal Design s36 says it will cover any parts that would be damaged if something goes wrong with the cooler unless you open it up and expand it of course. But if i had done that, i would have wasted hundreds of $$$. The biggest suggestion i got to fix my problems was to try and buy new motherboards/CPU/GPU. So if you're suffering a similar problem, i can only recommend taking your PC to a repair shop and getting them to identify the problem. Turns out the CPU cooler had somehow lost nearly half of its liquid and that likely it dripped onto and around these components. They came back and told me that the Motherboard AND the GPU are faulty, looks like water damage. Took the components to a PC repair shop and asked them to identify what the hell was causing problems. And even then, what would i replace?įor people who happen across this post in the future Finally, a dead CMOS battery can also cause the red light to trigger. It could also be the CPU fan is not plugged in. The CPU might not be plugged in correctly, or one of the pins is bent. I don't have money enough to replace ANYTHING, at least for another couple of months. CPU: A red light near this indicator means the motherboard does not recognize the CPU, which could mean many things. I don't have access to spare parts to simply try and narrow down what the problem is. If I turn off my computer in my normal way, (click on 'start', then click on 'turn off computer', then 'turn off') this scenario repeats itself every time. I repeated this prodedure until one time I pressed the on button and the computer turned on like normal. Now i am in the state i have described above. The left little light blinked green once, then started blinking red again. The problem seemed to get worse i was only able to get into windows for a minute or so until it would crash. Thought it was a cooling issue, bought a new case and fans to no avail. Tried to boot without GPU (no video out without it).Īt first i thought it was a GPU problem because i used to have problems installing the drivers and running it at full clock speeds (always had to under clock in afterburner) even then the machine would simply shut down while playing some of my more intensive games. Moved Ram around (all slots, both sticks/one stick). Eventually, CPU LED light flashes red and system turns off. Some lights flash red but they turn off quickly. System starts to boot as normal for anywhere between 2-30 seconds. Green Mobo light and green power lights for GPU. But the next morning, I can depress the on button and everything proceeds like it did when the computer was new.Power on PSU. There is no shutting down process that I can notice. The little light to the left of the on/off button stays on and is green, but everything else seems to be off like normal. If I depress the on/off switch, hold it for a count of ten, everything seemingly turns off just fine. if I turn off the computer in another way, everything seems normal. I am concerned that one of these times the computer will never turn on.īut. If I turn off my computer in my normal way, (click on "start", then click on "turn off computer", then "turn off") this scenario repeats itself every time. The left little light blinked green once, then started blinking red again. I depressed the button, holding it for a count to ten, then let go and pressed the on button again. I recently went to turn on my computer pressing the on button, and the little light to the left (there is second light to the right of the on/off button) of the on/off switch started blinking red with a regular rythm. I have a compaq presario 6000 series desktop bought in december 2002.
